The book “crank” by ellen hopkins, is a story about a girl named Kristina a student in her junior year of high school, goes to see her father and has not seen him for       

eight years. while Kristina is at her father house, she creates a new personality named bree who does things that Kristina would usually not do and this leads her to bad things like trying then getting addicted to meth. kristina also changes from once an innocent girl, into a crazy girl with a split personality that leads her to do bad things.

In the beginning of the story, while kristina goes to see her father, she meets a boy named buddy (adam) who she falls in love with. while she visits her father she also visits buddy who makes her do bad things. for example in the book buddy brings crank (meth) with him, her father found out and didn't stop it because then the father, buddy, and buddy’s other girl friend start to snort the drug and i feel like kristina was peer pressured into doing the drug. this also almost leaded to her being raped because after she snorted the drug she got really mad because of the comments that buddy was saying and when she left the bowling alley, she got lost and almost found herself being raped. Because of this, Kristina is found in a lot of bad situations because once she tried it with buddy, she couldn't stop she wanted more and more leading her into  doing bad things. Another way buddy affected Kristina is when she got home to her mother house, one day buddy calls her. While they were talking buddy says "so I think we should give each permission to see other people". When Kristina heard this her reaction was "I don't need your permission, buddy and you obviously don't need mine". This shows how when heard from her former boyfriend, the way she reacted because she "loved" him and hearing that from him could have caused her more anger causing her to go to other guys that live close to her. Another way Kristina is affected by buddy because when her mom asked to hear about the trip, she said "big girls don't cry, especially not in front of their mommies".

Bree changed Kristina's life in many ways. An example is that when she says "I invited Bree to take over while Kristina took cover". After she let her Bree said take over, she asked the lifeguard that worked at the waterpark is he had a lunch break. Another example is that when she bumps into Chade "Reno high's storied bad boy" she let her Bree side come out and asked him for his number and told him that her name was Bree. Another example is that when Bree hasn't taken the "monster" for a while, she starts to think about it a lot and one reason she is dating Brendan (the lifeguard) and chase is because they both promised her monster fueling her drug addiction. Another reason is that when Brendan and her went up a dirt track to hang out and to snort meth, Brendan rapes her while both high on the monster which later on in the book causes her to have a baby and if she never met the monster, maybe she would have never have met Brendan or be in this whole situation.

in conclusion the book crank is an amazing book i recommend this book because when you start to read this book it hooks you in until the end. it has a lot of intense scenes and a lot of emotional scenes. i recommend this book to everyone.
