The story Children of the Corn by stephen king, is a story in the book night shift. Children of the corn is a story about a married couple named Burt and Vicky who are having a vacation in california but pass through nebraska in car. After the married couple accidently hit a boy, the examine the body to find that his neck has been slit. when the married couple find Gatlin a small town in Nebraska, they are meet with kids that are in a cult and kill anybody that is older than 19 and is lead by a boy named isaac. It is a very breath taking book because of the suspense and the violence that is put into this story.
The violence in the book children of the corn is very descriptive. when burt find his wife dead and mounted on a crossbar, he describes it “the sockets were filled with the moonflax of cornsilk. her jaw was wrenched open in a silent scream, her mouth filled with cornhusk”. Another example is that in the beginning of the book the married couple burt and vicky run over a young boy. But as they examine they could see that the young boy neck was slit. As you find out at the end of the book Malachi (the boy that sacrifices the children) slit the young boys neck so the young boy would not pollute it or blight it. Another example is how the kids in the cult surrounded the married couples car and while burt was in the church, the kids dragged out vicky slashing the tires and when Burt gets out of the church to see his wife being dragged by the kids, one of the kids stabs Burt in the arm then Burt takes out the knife and stabs him in the throat.
the suspense in the book Children of the corn is bone chilling. for example when Burt find the bible in the church he see’s the date of birth and the date of death of a child and figures out that every child died at nine-teen. Another example is that when the married couple would pass sign’s and the sign’s woulds say “take this and eat saith the lord god”. Another sign said “A cloud by day a pillar of fire by night”. another example is that while Burt was running through the corn field trying to flee, he could notice that there were no flaws in the cornfield. it says “there were no mingers or mosquitoes in here, no blackflies or chiggers”. after burt found his wife in the cornfield and started to flee again, he notice that the corn started to block him off in every direction.
the story children of the corn is a very scary and bone chilling book but is written amazingly and outs you on the edge of your seat. each page wanted me to keep on reading until the shocking end. i recommend this story to anyone who likes to read stephen kind or likes horror books.
