The book “slaughterhouse-five” by Kurt Vonnegut is about billy pilgrim and the book cuts from different parts of his life from his birth to his death. billy pilgrim is born in 1922 in Ilium, New York. billy pilgrim is a very awkward kid but then gets drafted into world war 2. while Billy Pilgrim is fighting in world war two and after the war he meets very interesting characters that affect him. the book also provides different kind of archetypes for the characters in this book.
i believe in the story “slaughterhouse-five” that billy pilgrim is the anti hero because in the book has not made to seem like a classic hero in other books. billy pilgrim is made out to be a awkward quirky kid who is studying optometry until he’s drafted into world war two. as the story goes on you find out that billy pilgrim gets taken advantage of and is never able to make his own choices. Billy pilgrim is also seen as a anti hero because before and after the war no one really likes him and because he is weak and quirky, the soldiers would usually make fun of him. billy pilgrim is also made fun of by his fellow soldiers because he is training as a chaplain’s assistant.
this book also have many symbols that mean a lot of things. For example the starts in the book show how when billy pilgrim says he met the Tralfamadorians, they tell him that there books are made like that because the strats tell their own stories. another symbol in the book is the Tralfamadorians. i believe this because thats his escape from reality and it also shows how Tralfamadorians belief life and death is careless and indifferent about life. Another example is in the book they use the quote “So it goes”. that quote is used to show how Tralfamadorians believe how they may be dead in the present but are alive in the past.
this book “slaughterhouse-five” is very interesting and deals with alot of symbols that mean a lot of things and some of them deal with Tralfamadorians. though i have not finished this book i recommend it but i would stay really focused because this book changes from different parts of his life
